Busan trip

Daniel and I went to Busan for two nights while we were in Korea last month for holiday.

I went down there with mum earlier this year, then thought it would be nice to show Daniel since he hadn’t been other cities much in Korea.

We checked in Lotte hotel which was in the middle of CBD and had an afternoon tea in the lounge.

Petite gateau avec the cafe noir:) very nice indeed. We could see high skype buildings and apartments from the hotel room and lounge.

Foodwise, there is so much to eat in Busan. We had double braised pork with salad and wasabi dressing for lunch (very hot >.<). Noodles and steamed dumplings for snack.

Delicious and very cheap as well. Busan has a large port and fish market, which makes it famous for sashimi dishes if you are keen raw fish.

We visited a fish market and everyone was trying to sell their fish and get us a table. We randomly chose this one young lady, who gave us a variety of fish and also a little octopus on the house.

You cannot get sashimi any fresher than that, and being in the city other than Seoul, people are so friendly and generous:)

There was a firework festival just a weekend before we arrived, and some other fairs on throughout the year.

We unfortunately missed all events since we were there during the week. But, it would have been nice to have a chance to go around other suburbs and go to the festivals cause it is quite a big city.

Prague

I went to Eastern Europe in the end of September this year.

Well..I haven’t been able to travel as much as I want since I moved to Australia. Going back home once or twice a year was all for me until last year.

Then I quit my job this April and went back home for a couple of months, which gave me a chance to travel again with my mum and also on my own.

I only went to France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and England about 10 years ago >.< So I was pretty excited about this trip.

Prague and Budapest is my favorite places to visit again. Such a beautiful city!

Although it was September ( Autumn in Korea ), Praha was freezing cold!

I had to wear 4-5 layers of clothes, still freezing. Thankfully there was stalls selling a nice and warm mulled wine on the street. I think it was only a couple of euros.

I was a little naughty having coffees and wines everyday but couldn’t resist! It was seriously good wherever I went.

We had ribs and apple strudel at this local pub just before we left.

It was so tender and succulent, went down really well with a beer :p

Although I spent only a few days in Prague and had to move to another city, I fell in love with this city so quick.

It would be nice to visit there again and wander around all back streets.

Maybe going to local markets (Yes, I like food shopping more than clothes shopping haha) and trying nice cafes and restaurants.

Wow..I cannot wait for my next holiday already:)

Icy Poles

2013-12-05 12.12.55

I made these icy poles last week and kept in the freezer for a hot summer day.

I blended about two cups of watermelon, squeeze of one lemon and handful of mint. Ah! don’t forget a sprinkle of cayenne pepper for a kick:p

Being a Korean, I like hot spicy food even in sweets e.g. chilli chocolate

This icy pole is so refreshing and hydrating for you, and better than store-bought ice creams >.<

I’m going to experiment different flavours of icy poles this summer with seasonal fruits.

Mangoes, peaches, strawberries, kiwis, what else????

Banana Choc chip muffin

Baking always calms me down. I don’t know why.

I didn’t get a good sleep last night and wasn’t feeling concentrated while doing my study this morning.

So I decided to do some baking 🙂

I like home-made muffins and bars at home as it’s a lot healthier than those from the bakeries or cafes.

Very simple ingredients – ripe bananas, choc chips, cacao powder, eggs, self-raising flour, walnut oil, pear puree (that I made on the weekend to use for cooking and baking)

Chocolate and banana flavour marry well together.

Purple salad

2013-12-05 12.07.31

When people hear me saying ” I had salad for lunch (or dinner)” “, they think it is boring.

Well.. depends on what kind of salads you make. I try to make it interesting and flavorsome with different colours and texture.

One of my favorites is cabbage >.< I know it can taste quite strong when eaten raw though I quite like it with other vegetables.

I made a big batch of this purple salad for my lunch as well as dinner. Daniel is going to have it with a pork chop for dinner:)

I simply mixed red cabbage, zucchini, celery and parsley, and drizzled a light dressing made of pineapple juice and olive oil. Yum!

You can add some shredded chicken breast to add more protein, sprinkle dried fruits or nuts for different texture, and maybe brie or blue cheese might be nice with it.

I cannot wait to have some more for dinner already.
